30 days of health and wellbeing

Good health begins with you

Often we don't appreciate the importance of good health until something happens to us - or someone close to us.

50% of today's health problems are the result of unhealthy habits and lifestyle choices. Most of us understand that we have health risks but only a quarter of us take the actions we need to live longer, happier, healthier lives.

At MBF and HBA we are continually encouraging and supporting our customers to take positive steps towards the best physical, mental and emotional health possible - or wellness.

We are committed to protecting your most valuable asset - your health - even when you're fit and healthy. And we do this for one simple reason: we believe that prevention is better than cure.

So here are seven steps that you can take towards better health and wellness:

  1. The number one thing you can do to improve your health is to stop smoking. Getting help by talking to your GP significantly improves your chances of quitting.
  2. Be active for at least 30 minutes most days of the week. Moderate exercise has so many health benefits. It helps you look good and feel good.
  3. Eat a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, low fat dairy, lean protein, fibre and whole grains. If it won't eventually rot, don't eat it.
  4. Make time for sleep, rest and relaxation. 7-8 hours sleep for adults and 9-10 hours for teenagers. When you sleep your body is growing, restoring and repairing itself and your brain needs down time to be effective.
  5. Know your blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose levels - or your health vitals. If these need improving, take action.
  6. Understand your personal health risks. Your age, gender, family history, stage of life, background and whether you have a long-term health condition all shape your personal health risks.
  7. Stick with your family GP. It increases the chances of detecting and treating serious illnesses and improves your health outcomes if you have a long-term health condition.

Actions and choices you make now and in the future play an important part in your health journey.
