How to gain the greatest value from your MBF private health cover
Whenever possible:
- Use a MBF Network Hospital for inpatient services. You are likely to experience lower out-of-pocket expenses for hospital charges than at non-MBF Network hospitals*.
- Always call MBF before going to hospital to review your cover and options.
- Find a doctor who participates in the Medical Gap Scheme for your inpatient treatment. You will have no out-of-pocket expenses for each doctor who chooses to participate in the Scheme for your treatment (excludes the cost of your prosthesis). As doctors are independent of MBF, we cannot guarantee a participating doctor will treat every patient on a no medical gap basis.
- Before going to hospital, always ask your doctor to explain all the costs involved in your treatment including the cost of a prosthesis (which may or may not apply to you) and whether he or she will participate in the Medical Gap Scheme for your treatment. This is called informed financial consent. Ask your doctor to include an outline of fees for services from other specialists (eg surgeon, assistant surgeon, anaesthetist, radiologist, pathologist) while you are in hospital, even if you do not see them personally.
- If your doctor advises that your surgery will involve a surgically-implanted prosthesis, ask your doctor if there is a suitable prosthesis that has no gap.
- Use MBF MemberCare Network dentists, physiotherapists, and opticians. They offer access to higher benefits for selected services under your Extras cover and the convenience of MBF AutoClaim. Just swipe your MBF Member Card to make a claim and pay for any gap on-the-spot.
