Waking up to the 'Power of the nap' in new Sydney MBF Centre sleep pods
Release date: October 9th, 2007
Three state of the art sleep pods at the new MBF Centre in George Street - the first such high tech pods available in a retail setting - will wake up Sydneysiders to the health power of the nap.

Each pod (pictured) is a cocoon of tranquillity allowing a 20-minute nap as a welcome respite from the pressures of big city living and working for sleep deprived people. Even the pod's wake up 'alarm' is gentle.
The pods are an innovative feature of MBF's new retail centre near Wynyard with the availability of the diversified health insurer's expanded offering in private health insurance, life insurance and financial planning.
"Our research tells us that Australians could do with a good night's sleep and a sleep pod power nap at MBF's new flagship centre in the heart of the Sydney CBD could be just the answer," said MBF Chief Medical Officer Dr Christine Bennett.
"According to the latest national MBF Healthwatch survey, 51% of Australians say they are not getting enough sleep and blame job stress, difficulty in relaxing and general worry for their sleep deprivation".
"Our new sleep pods are available on a 'drop-in, drop-off' basis at our new centre, which we believe will become an oasis of health amid all the hustle and bustle of Australia's biggest city"
MBF Managing Director and Chief Exceutive Officer, Eric Dodd, officially opened the centre today at a ceremony hosted by television newsman, John Mangos, with special guest, Guy Leech, MBF's ambassador for health and wellbeing. The full range of MBF customer products and services is available at the centre along with a heavy emphasis on improving health and wellbeing.
Customers can undertake an in2life Health Risk Assessment and make the most of a regular series of health and wellbeing seminars. Information on the new centre is available at www.mbfgeorgest.com.au.
In terms of the new MBF Centre's 'excitement factor, the high tech sleep pods, distributed in Australia by MetroNaps, are likely to be a big attraction. Sydney 'power nappers' will have something in common with their 'sleep in the city' colleagues in Manhattan where six of the pods are located in the Empire State Building.
"As humans, we were designed to nap but somewhere in the Middle Ages we lost that when mechanical time came into vogue and people started being paid by the hour not by the job," said MetroNaps director, Brendan Toprazzi.
"There are health benefits to napping and taking a 20-minute power nap can improve energy, memory and mood, which can all help in decision making and being more productive and effective."
The space age sleep cocoons are available on level one of the new MBF centre and, given their likely popularity, it will be important for would be nappers to make a sleep pod booking when they arrive at the centre.
